An Open Letter to Mark Zuckerberg’s Mom

A few days ago Pakistan banned Facebook access to its 2.3 million users over tasteless and offensive images of Muhammad on a particular page.

This is one of those wedge between the Muslim world and the West. Muslims view the action as an attack on their faith, validating everything that Osama Bin Ladin and his kind have been trying to tell the Islamic world. The West hates you and your prophet, they will do anything – from invasion to mockery- to stand against Islam. On the other the Muslim reaction confirms to the west thew worst stereotypes about Muslims. Muslims are intolerent, violent and seek to impose their values on the rest of the world. They have no regard for free speech.

The blogosphere is full of anecdotes that condemn Muslims for their lack of regard for the freedom of speech, and their alleged yearning for special treatment.

But are they really looking for special treatment?

I noticed that the group “Everybody Draw Mohammad Day”, which includes images that call for violence agianst Muslims, is back on Facebook after a short time offline. Incidentally, confirming Muslim stereotypes, the page was hacked by a cyber-Mujahid not taken down by Facebook.
However, the very humorous and only midly offensive group “Everbody Draw Mark Zuckerberg’s Mom”, which never called for violence, has been deleted by facebook. Not only has the group been deleted, a post on my wall discussing the page has also been deleted.

So, Mark Zuckerberg’s mom, please tell your son to play by his own rules. We all think hes a prick for refusing to yield to our privacy concerns anyway. But your spoilt brat has also proved that he is an unprincipled child.

P.S

If the creator of “Everybody Draw Mark Zuckerberg’s Mom” or anyone that has screenshots of the group is reading this, please contact me.

      I’m not attacking his mother.

THis guy definitely lost the plot, hey you, clam down and think. This letter shows the hypocrisy and double standard of Facebook. Because insulting the Prophet (pbuh) is worse than insulting someone’s Mum and both are wrong. Touting freedom of speech for one and not for another is definitely wrong. So why is this happening? My facebook account, gone. Facebook is dead to me. Who with me on developing a new socializing platform?

I’ve sent it to TechCrunch. Hope they report it.

Khawar Khan’s post is not about proving one group being right or other group as wrong, its about double standards of Facebook. Former group disrespects peoples’ belief which they hold dear and it should be removed (and thats why there’s an option of report on FB which FB is not paying attention to) and drawing Mark Zuckerburg’s mom (or anyone’s mom)is also equally disrespectful, and this too, should be removed.

Disrespecting anyone’s belief or drawing anyone’s mom in the name of ‘freedom of speech’ is a sheer misuse of such a freedom. Also if any disrespectful communication is allowed it becomes a case of vendetta rather than any morals of freedom of speech.

Facebook banned the group for People’s Resistance, which is a peaceful pro-democracy civil society group in Karachi which was formed during the lawyers’ movement. I’m in complete favor of free speech. But if Facebook can ban the People’s Resistance group, but leave up the EDMD group, it suggests to me that Facebook really doesn’t get it.
